Round 2 of matches were played this weekend at Davenant School in Loughton which included a change of venue from our usual indoor facilities to our outdoor grass pitches.
This challenged players to think in a different way, improve their decision making and adapt to a new environment.
Our IP & OP topics this week were;
- Recognising when and where to dribble
- Can we create an overload from this?
- 1V1 Defending
- Where do we want to force our opponent and why?
Players were demonstrating the right moment to dribble to beat a player, or provoke an opponent by dribbling into a space. This would allow them to combine with a team member once they attracted pressure from the opponent.
Players are started to recognise the basic techniques of individual defending, how they can make it predictable and harder for the attacker to beat them in a 1v1.
Three weeks of exposure to team training, players are flourishing from constant repetition of both the in possession and out of possession principles of play which is developing them within small team units.
With the games being so close and competitive, each team are able to develop and adapt their game plans throughout each interval. This leads to a new team taking the lead in the league table, after every goal is scored.
Coaches are able to use visual aids, white boards and video clips which creates a player led learning process, allowing them to take ownership and develop within each minute of the game.
SWT Blue & Red are joint leaders at the top of the table on 13 points with SWT Orange & Pink closely following behind them on 11 points.
Golden boot award this week goes to Lenny Hookaway.
Best team play award goes to SwT Orange.
