Academy Director Richard Thomas and Lead Coach Liam Bloye had this to say about last weekends tournament.
Last weekend saw SwT represented in an U7's exhibition tournament which was both fun and challenging in different ways.
We believed that the tournament would prove difficult in the beginning, having so many of our squad playing in an official format for the first time. As the day progressed we hoped that we would be able to help every player develop new skills in some way and this proved to be the case.
Each game created a new opportunity for the children to learn something new, or immediately attempt to work on something from the previous game. With individual and team targets set for each game, players were able to feel part of a learning process which was designed to help them improve.
Everyone behaved exceptionally well throughout the tournament, listening with both focus and concentration during each interval. Taking in new information set by the coaches, showing both desire and perseverance to be successful.
The players also had the added benefit of playing in different positions. This challenges them in different ways and further exposes them to different perspectives of the game. It also tests the players mental attitude towards each role they were given and helps develop a growth mindset. It was fantastic to see so many players showing a positive attitude towards this approach.
We naturally expected every player to make mistakes, but guiding the players and managing that process helped create an opportunity to increase their motivation to improve throughout the day.
The day culminated with our first victory, with every player clearly taking on board their personal feedback from the previous matches and using earlier experiences to have a positive impact for the team.
Thank you for being so supportive. Well done to all players who took part. We look forward to the next tournament we participate in.
